Calcium Supplements

Recently a scientific/medical paper was released saying calcium supplements were shown to increase the risk of heart attacks (myocardial infarctions). Scientific Chick (a Canadian scientist and blogger) read the paper, analyzed it and reached the conclusion:

".....one cannot assume that calcium/vitamin D supplements would lead to the same risks. In fact, another recent study in women reported that calcium and vitamin D administered together had no effect on the risk of heart disease. It’s also important to remember that when weighing risks and benefits, calcium (and vitamin D) does a lot more than just strengthen your bones: it has also been shown to play a role in the prevention of certain cancers. "

Most of this skink species lay eggs; however recently, members living in higher altitudes have begun developing the embryos internally and giving live-births.

Apples and Oranges

....as in Fox Squirrels (Sciurus niger) eating.   Yesterday I watched one of the three young squirrels race across the lawn, up into the crabapple tree and way out on a tiny branch to pick off one of the few remaining withered apples. 

A couple years ago, I took some pix of a squirrel eating oranges I put out for the house finches.  Tasted pretty good.

What?  Haven't you seen a squirrel eating an orange before?

At Rafferty Dam this morning

It looks more like Spring melt and run-off levels at Rafferty than late summer.

And, at the marina, there were a couple of guys just coming in from fishin'. 

Now I'm really in a bad mood

Okay, so thgin things haven't started all that well this morning.  I am not in a good mood at all.  Bacis  Basic Blah with Dyslexia could be a revised title for this blog. 

I psent spent part of last night redesigning the wallpaper here because I visited a couple of Sask blogger sites and found one with the same damn cutesy, grassy, dandelion-going-to-seed background as I originally used!  Feh, that blog belongs to a sister Saskbirder (who I don't know but probably will some day).  So, I started making changes.  Of course, I settled on some shade of orange (I smile slightly about that as I adore the colour orange)

Well, anyway, so about 20 minutes ago, bad-mood person here sat down and typed up some mostly coherent sentences, 90% spelled correctgly correctly, and then I proceeded to exit my site without saving or publishing. 

This is a re-do.  Now, I'm going for a drive out to Rafferty Dam to see if anything birdy is out there.  It's cloudy again and probably will rain - again.
