Rough-legged Hawk

Rough-legged Hawk  (Buteo lagopus)  flying in the valley this afternoon.

Very distinctive markings on this bird - it's an adult male  light-morph, by the way.

Update:  my blogging/photo problems seem to be settled.  Yay

  1. Neat view of the hawk. Very rare around here. I do love those mountain bluebirds and hope to see some of a flyfishing trip to Montana this summer. Hope you woes with ebird get straigtened out. I'm enjoying your blog and would hate to miss it. :)

  2. Thank You, troutbirder. Very kind words. Oh, I shall perservere with this blog, one way or another, as I really enjoy doing it.

Montana is a beautiful state. I'm sure you will see Mtn Bluebirds and many other 'western' birds while you are enjoying your fishing. Where are you going? Looking forward to reading about it on your blog.

  3. Perserverance is good as long as it doesn' stumbler over into permanent futility...:) I might stop in Butte to meet Professor "Ecorover" on the way to Darby in the Bitteroot Valley. A great camping spot on Boulder Creek. I go flyfishing... Mrs T goes into Darby for ice cream.

  4. Sounds like a great trip. Are you a fly-tier as well? I've been to Butte a time or two. I'll mark the area on my map for future reference, including "Ice Cream at Darby"
